Dell, Microsoft Join (Red) In Fighting AIDS In Africa
Dell and Microsoft announced yesterday that they will join the fight against AIDS in Africa by selling specially branded (Red) computers and printers. Featured in the (Red) product line will be the XPS desktop, two notebooks (XPS M1330 and XPS M1530) and the 948 All-in-One Printer. They will contribute between $50 to $80 for each notebook or desktop sold and $5 for each printer. The (Red) project, which is operated by The Global Fund, was co-founded by U2 singer Bono to draw businesses into the battle against AIDS in Africa.
The PCs will have an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a special edition Windwos Vista Ultimate that has (Red)-themed software including six unique desktop wallpapers, a screensaver and two Windows Sidebar gadgets. Both the computers and printer will have a very cool red color.
The (Red) products will be available on Dell‘s Web site and at Best Buy stores in the U.S. by the end of the week. Beginning Jan. 31, the products will also be available through Dell in nearly 30 additional countries – hopefully Germany is one of them.
